6 Magna Carta: Law, Life And Landscape

Now pay attention! There was more than one Magna Carta - the foundation document of rule of law in England went through several versions. Hereford's dates from 1217 and put an end to a civil war. In its 800th-anniversary year it is displayed alongside a 13th-century copy of the Forest Charter which dealt with the daily lives of ordinary people.

9 The Black And White House Museum

The stunningly well-preserved Jacobean house is a remarkably grand example of a 17th century timber-framed building, and now plays host to a museum documenting life in Jacobean times. 10 National Trust: The Weir Garden

The sun is shining (intermittently, I grant you) and so we must take this fleeting opportunity to head outdoors and enjoy the dog days of the British summer. The Weir Garden, designed largely by Roger Parr in the 1920s, offers spectacular riverside views, and is an ideal location for a leisurely stroll or family picnic on even cloudy days.
