7 Magna Carta: Law, Life And Landscape

Now pay attention! There was more than one Magna Carta - the foundation document for rule of law in England went through several versions. Hereford's dates from 1217 and put an end to a civil war. In its 800th-anniversary year it is displayed alongside a 13th-century copy of the Forest Charter which dealt with the daily lives of ordinary people.

8 Cider Museum & King Offa Cider Brandy Distillery

9 English Heritage: Longtown Castle

With magnificent views across the Black Mountains and the Olchon valley, this thick-walled keep dating from around 1200 offers a tranquil, scenic day out with plenty of space for children to run around. 10 English Heritage: Rotherwas Chapel

The Roman Catholic Bodenham family's place of worship has a fine Elizabethan roof, a rebuilt 18th-century tower, and striking Victorian interior decoration and furnishings by the Pugins. The south window depicts a pilgrimage made by Sir Roger Bodenham. He and his family converted in 1606 following a 'miraculous' cure to a tumour in his leg.
